DUMBWAITER PROJECTS
DESIGNED AROUND THE ROUTE, SPACE AND FINISH
A dumbwaiter should be planned around what needs moving, where it needs to travel and how it will be loaded.
The right solution depends on the load, number of levels, available space, loading height and how the lift needs to integrate with the building and its finishes.

what needs moving
Food, plates, drinks, crockery, cutlery, documents, laundry, household items, retail products or any other small goods

Where Does It Connect?
From kitchen to dining room, basement to bar, service area to upper floor, private kitchen to bedroom, warehouse to office, or back-of-house to front-of-house.

What space exists?
Existing shaft, new opening, tight route, awkward wall position or planned joinery integration.

How should it look and load?
Counter-height, hatch style, stainless steel, concealed, front-of-house, back-of-house or finish-led.

NOT SURE IF A DUMBWAITER IS THE RIGHT LIFT?
Many customers start by asking for a dumbwaiter, but the best route depends on what needs
moving, how it needs to load and where it needs to travel.
FOOD & KITCHEN LIFTS
Best when the main requirement is hospitality service between kitchen, bar, dining, basement or service areas.
Best for compact loads such as food, drinks, plates, documents and small goods, usually with counterheight or hatch-style loading.
TROLLEY LIFTS
Best where items need to roll in at floor level, such as loaded trolleys, cages, laundry or heavier service loads.
GOODS LIFTS
Best for larger stock, materials, equipment, workplace supplies or heavier back-of-house movement.

What our customers want to know
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A dumbwaiter is a compact service lift used to move items such as food, drinks, plates, documents, packages and small goods between floors. They are commonly used in hospitality, commercial and private residential projects.
“Food lift” describes how the lift is being used rather than one specific lift type. Many food lifts are dumbwaiters, particularly where plates, food and drinks are hand-loaded at counter or waist height. Larger loads or floor-level trolley movement may require a different service-lift arrangement.
Yes. Dumbwaiters can be incorporated into private homes, new builds and renovations for moving food, drinks, household items and similar loads between floors. The lift can be planned around the available space, layout and required finish.
Potentially, yes. An existing shaft or opening can often form part of a replacement project, but its dimensions, condition, landing openings and the requirements of the new lift need to be reviewed first.
Start with whatever information you already have. Drawings, floor plans, kitchen layouts, photos, approximate dimensions and details of what needs to be moved are all useful.
For an existing lift, photos of the lift, shaft, landings and data plate can also help
A standard dumbwaiter is generally intended for hand-loaded items rather than wheeled trolleys. If a trolley, cage or other wheeled load needs to be rolled directly into the lift at floor level, a trolley lift is usually the more appropriate route.
